Download, unzip, and copy to your content/mpeg folder (on XP look in C:\Document and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ElectricSheep, or on Win7 C:\ProgramData\ElectricSheep, and on Mac ~/Library/Application Support/Electric Sheep, and on Linux in ~/.electricsheep).

If you want to install a bunch of packs (more than 2GB total) you should first increase the cache size under the settings control panel, or make it unlimited.

On Windows, that's in a hidden folder, you may have to go to "View" under the "Folder Options" menu and check the "Show Hidden Files and Folders" box. You can go there directly from configuration/settings window by clicking to the advanced tab, and then click "opening this folder", and put them in "mpeg".

linux noob. im lost

i just installed electricsheep. when i go to the screensaver configure window, electricsheep shows up as one of the screensavers i can choose from. now, im kinda new to linux, after i downloaded one of the sheep packs from archive.org and i extracted it to my download folder, now im supposed to copy it to ~/.electricsheep, how exactly do i do that? i dont understand what '~' means. someone please help

first, if you are patient it

Great Program

Ive got a few questions:

Im currently using an older version of ES and instead of the files being in "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data"

They are found in "C:\WINDOWS\system32\electricsheep-cache\mpeg"

When I go to the ES homepage and click on the "Top Sheeps" links on the right it allows me to download .avi files.

Are these Flock Files ? If they are, do I have to rename them to the

"#####=#####=#####=#####.mpg" filenames?

Sheep

I downloaded Sheep for Mac running 10.5.8. Selected it in the screensaver via system prefs. Only one sheep renders.

Do I need to do anything else or does it take awhile to start the rendering?

sometimes it can take a while

sometimes it can take a while to download. let it run for a few hours or overnight. make sure your power settings don't turn off the screen.

something is still not quite right...

I have windows, and I saved lots of sheep (815, to be precise) saved in my mpeg folder under content. I followed the advice of the wiki to rename them all from ".avi" files to ".mpg" files. However, they not only are still classified as "movie files", they also don't work...

Any ideas why they still don't come up?

What's the deal with the downloading?

Hi, first, thank you for the sheep that I have been successful downloading. May I ask, why I am downloading these either avi or mpeg files one at a time? The grouped downloads seems to corrupt when expanded, so I am downloading one movie at a time which takes forever. I am no expert, but really love the effects when placed in my ~/Lib/Application Suppot/ElectricSheep/contensts/mpeg folder in Leopard 5.8. Thanks for the movies again, but wish there were a single compressed download.

i had the same problem i have no folder to save my sheep in a few are payin but i cant find where they are stored to save the rest in the same place. Theres are no files other than the install and run files etc. would be great to hear bk as i would love to get this thing running. Also just curious but how does the breeding and mutations work? does every one see the same sheep at the same time hu is on there e.s.? and if not then why woud it need to be all linked up? cheeers, D.T.

i believe the pack files are correct on the server; you may have a bad copy. i recommend you delete it and download from archive.org again.

If it's still alive you can bring a sheep back by downloading it from the current flock (click on a sheep on the right and then click "flock").

Active Desktop?

Hi spot,

I just saw your reply and wanted to ask if there is a posibility that ES could be made into an active desktop? If so how much regedit would have to be done? I really think that the effort would be worth the prize. This idea has been in the back of my mind for a long time now and has given me the incentive to go back to school for IT-CNS. I am a Lake Co. resident and was going to ask if you would consider visiting our school sometime in the near future? I really would like to know a little more about how you make computer magic happen.

Hey Mark, I was just reeding through the forum while my new sheep pack downloads, thats a great idea so i decided to try it out and it works (on my mac). Just open terminal and past this:

/System/Library/Frameworks/ScreenSaver.framework/Resources/ScreenSaverEngine.app/Contents/MacOS/ScreenSaverEngine -background

That will make your active screensaver (ES) into your desktop background. Idk what this will do as far as contributing to the supercomputer, maybe it will make your computer always rendering? Mine still runs fine anyways so i dont mind helpin the cause. Hope this helped!

How To Remove Active Desktop On Mac (With Terminal)?

Hi, I want to use ES as an Active Desktop on my iMac (OS 10.6.8) but don't want to start this until I know how to remove it later if I need to, and I'm new to Mac. As suggested, I was going to add ES as an Active Desktop by going to Terminal and typing /System/Library/Frameworks/ScreenSaver.framework/Resources/ScreenSaverEngine.app/Contents/MacOS/ScreenSaverEngine -background. Is there a way to use Terminal to disable / remove the Active Desktop and return things to normal? If so, how . . . what do I need to type?

When I went to http://www.archive.org/details/electricsheep-flock-244 the page was empty except that it reported a different Fatal Error each time I tried it. Here are 3:

Hi, im from argentina so my english is not the best.

I have the same problem as many people here. Id download ES, and i have 2... draws, 2 sheeps and it appear the message:server request failed, using free one

I d read this panel, and im dowloading that pack.(ive to dowload everyone in that page?) (and for what is that, are they sheeps?) but i dont find the folder to put it. i have Vista (in spanish) but i have c-program files-Electricsheep screensaver, and inside this i have several files and a folder 'Scripts' and inside this i have more files and 2 folders: clibs and loggings .where do i put what im downloading?.. and then?? when does the magic beggins?? je

downloaded sheep pack, now nothing works

i just got the sheep pack 4 and put it in the electric sheep folder, didn't work. I've been looking on how to correct this, people say to un-hide folders to get programdata but it still dosen't exist, what do i do? also is there a way to instantly launch the visuals instead of opening configurations first?

what did you set the directory to? you shouldn't have to set that. i recommend deleting your config file and reinstalling. or set the path to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ElectricSheep\content/

how about just a way to RUN it in full screen? How hard can it be to answer a simple question? I could run 2.6.6 in full screen and all I have heard for months now is "the new version is way better". Well, how great can it be if it can't run fullscreen and nobody on this forum can tell Windows users how to do it?

You can start it fullscreen

You can start it fullscreen with the start menu command that's installed called "run electricsheep screensaver" or by pressing 'f' while it's running in a window to go fullscreen.

the number comes from the 2nd

the number comes from the 2nd digit of the sheep in the pack, so pack 3 means 13XXX.

Problem downloading packs

I have trouble downloading the sheep packs. whenever the download of any of them is about halfway, it stops and concels, with firefox saying that the scource adress or something could not be read.

by now I manually downloaded 17 or so sheep and soem edges, but I really want to download the packs.

any suggestions?

Blame your ISP

I have seen this before when an ISP decided that large downloads were slowing down their bandwidth and decided to kill everybody's downloads every now and again.

Torrents should work though.

Unless Spot has a problem with it, I could create a torrent from all the sheep packs. I no longer know which sheep belong to which pack, but I don't think it'd be an issue, as you can always pick only the sheep you want.

Anyone for or against this?

I full heartedly support any form of torrent for these types of files. NOOBS: learn where to put these, your C:\ProgramData\ElectricSheep\content\mpeg folder, for vista users at least, then youre golden. Viva la Torrente!

Edit: although after checking out your link to the torrent there are no seeders or leechers T____T

HDD had the wrong letter

HDD had the wrong letter assigned while I was gone; I'm seeding again.

Also, Mininova hasn't scraped the trackers since I uploaded it; I'm currently seeing 3 seeds and 4 peers.
