Sheep server.org

Scott, I was going to post this on facebook but I thought that this would be a more appropriate. When you moved to NYCity did you take the server with you? From what I understand you were a Lake Co. resident is that true? Maybe you could reply with some of the secs of the new server?.... I would like to spend some time asking you ES questions in a chat forum maybe sometime? I've thought alot about what you have given to all of us for FREE! I revere you as a genius and admire youre generosity. I would like to thank you for ES. Exept I feel thanks is not enough. You and ES should be awarded alot more for your contributions. WOW the most beatiful FREE application on the web. Well worth the time to understand what Androids Dream. Super cool app. THANK YOU! Also, MERRY CHRISTMAS, and HAPPY NEW YEAR 2011 God bless you and yours. MarkS

Thank you Mark, you are very

Thank you Mark, you are very kind.

For many years the server was in "colo" (rented rack space in a room of servers). That machine was owned by Dean Gaudet who donated to us the resources to run the sheep server there (in addition to acting as sysadmin and eventually doing some major development). I never saw the machine, I just access it via ssh and http.

Today it has even less location. The sheep server is a VPS rented by Linode. I believe this "virtual machine" is hosted in Fremont, but if it was moved I wouldn't even know it.

I don't generally have time for live chat sessions but I am happy to answer questions here.

Getting Educated?

I tried to get an education at a technical college in my area last year. Exept that they were just handing out grades for attendance, I was disapointed and dropped out because I wasn't learning the things I was paying alot of money for. Do you have any suggestions as to the coarse of study and what university I should seek out. I live in North East Ohio, and have limited recources available right now. I wont say what school I attended, but as before I just wasn't getting anything from it, exept a big bill. I do understand the hardware part of the PC pretty well, (bits, bytes, nybbles) but the programming is really difficult, with the compilers and ethernet settings and rules. Any reply is appreciated. Thanks Scott.

My opinion is you can find

My opinion is you can find all the information you need for free on the internet. For example with Google, Khan Academy, Wikipedia, and Stack Overflow you can learn a lot. I recommend learning to program Python by messing around with Fr0st. You can write Python programs that create and animate Flames and Electric Sheep.
